Cassandra C
She turns 18 in 9 months. She held down a job and paid bills, yet the State determined she was not yet "mature" enough to make life altering decisions (except of course if she had wanted an abortion, here in California anyways, but I digress).
So she is right smack in the middle of Chemo. Which means it now would be completely deadly to stop treatment as the cancer that would remain would then gain a resistance to the chemo, and I'm guessing making it stronger and more aggressive. So now when Cassandra is 18 in 9 months she will still not really be able to make her own choice, it was already stolen from her. And her life's whole direction was determined by the State. God Bless America, land of the free. (Note: that last part was sarcasm ;) )
I want to include that the doctors give her about an 80% chance of survival with treatment. Sure that's a great thing. But what is not great is the State allowing doctors to rule your body, for one thing, it should be noted that they do stand to gain money from her treatment and that doctor mal practice is high up there on the list of most common incidents of death in America.
Do doctors know more then you regarding medicine, disease and conventional treatment? Sure but do we really want a court mandate that their knowledge trumps our decisions and that we must check are brains in the lobby?
I am reminded (and this seems to happen a lot these days) of the kings birthday suit. And I dread the future and what the horde will allow.
